Stomach Acid – Why Maintaining Adequate Levels Is So Important

Stomach Acid and Health

Contrary to popular belief, your body needs stomach acid for it to be healthy. In fact, over half of the population is deficient in stomach acid due to modern diet.  As a result, half of our population is sick, weak, or depressed. That being said, in order to utilize the nutrients from your food that you put into your body, you need to have adequate levels of stomach acid.  If you lack proper levels of acid in the stomach, you are unable to properly extract key nutrients from your food.

Hippocrates, the father of medicine, treated all of his patients with Apple Cider Vinegar.  He knew that all sickness started in the gut and that proper gut function was required for health.  Thus, you fix the gut to the point where it can properly utilize the minerals and vitamins in food, and the patient heals.  How simple.

Naturally Increase Stomach Acid

Also, Apple Cider Vinegar naturally increases stomach acid and helps in the digestion of food.  If your wondering how you can incorporate this miracle drink into you diet, you can watch my YouTube video HERE. That being said, if you are taking any sort of synthetic vitamin c (ascorbic acid),  get off it immediately!  Ascorbic acid actually weakens stomach acid and destroys your collagen.  Hair, nail, and skin health require collagen!  Your best bet is natural food sources.  I like Acerola Cherry for its High vitamin C content. One tsp will give you over 700% of the RDA of vitamin c.

As well as using Apple Cider Vinegar, you can start incorporating cultured foods into your diet.  Cultured foods contain living probiotics that help maintain proper gut microorganisms which in turn regulate your stomach acid.  If you’re unaware of cultured foods you can check out my Recipes on YouTube HERE and also HERE.

Nutritional Yeast, B vitamins, and Stomach Acid

Nutritional Yeast is yeast that is grown on beets and then harvested and cooked to make it ‘inactive’.  Also, Nutritional Yeast is non candida forming (as it’s no longer active).  However, it’s full of naturally occurring B vitamins which are essential for proper stomach acid formation.  Stomach acid can not form without the presence of b vitamins.  Nutritional Yeast is an easy add to the diet because of its many uses.

Furthermore, ancient Egyptians recognized the healing powers of nutritional yeast early on.  Hieroglyphics depict the Egyptians growing and cultivating this super food we know today as nutritional yeast.  It was a rarity during their time and reserved for only the wealthy.  Luckily, access to this super food is readily available in today’s world.  That being said, there is a large selection of nutritional yeast on the market.  It’s important to get one that is grown on non GMO beets and unfortified with b12; or any other type of synthetic vitamin.
